The IACI was created in 2009 by universities in China, London and Taiwan, with membership growing to include partners from universities and organisations from around the world. The 2009 symposium, hosted by Peking University’s Institute for Cultural Industries, facilitated dialogue amongst the international community of creative and cultural researchers informed by stakeholders from industry, government and the Olympics. The 4th Symposium in 2011 will be held in Korea.
The 3rd International Symposium of the IACI hosted by Lord Bilimoria, president UK India Business Council, founder of Cobra Beer is arranged by London Metropolitan University with its Chinese and Australian partners. It presents the opportunity
- For relationship enhancement amongst an eminent group of world experts from corporations, policy makers and universities
- To articulate current and future global issues
- To launch a physical business platform with industry and education partners to strengthen the global training, education, skills, research and consultancy provision between the East and West
The symposium agenda engages the international experts around four themes:
- Regional perspectives on the global development of the creative and cultural industries
- Capacity building opportunities and challenges with emerging markets 2010 and beyond – the Olympics
- Sector Views: the needs of partners in business exchange
- Facilitating East West training, research and consultancy: launching the new IACI business platform
The first three themes provide an opportunity for industry, academics and policy makers to review current trends in the sectors. The final theme, led by Professor Hardy Xiang, Peking University, Beijing, will outline the plans of the IACI to become a leading business network for research, training and consultancy.
The Symposium will conclude with the launch of The International Association of Cultural & Creative Industries. This is the new business platform registered in Hong Kong for training, consultancy, research and publications which is the result of the Alliance.
